After compiling the 14 answers given, i felt it was good to share with my readers what they have to say and their responses could be the decisive answer to you choosing or breaking the idea of stepping into a niche like "make money online".
Thomasinfield points out "Find A Niche In A Niche"
"This is one of the most important things that you can do as you look to starting your own blog in a competitive niche. If the niche you want to enter is 'Dogs' and you feel this is to competitive for you liking, then why not focus on just big dogs or a certain breed of dogs.
The benefit of doing this is that you are giving yourself less competition but you will also find that a lot of the people looking for blogs on dogs will also find your blog of interest - making your potential readers not much smaller."
Tim Schroeder points out "Originality and focus on a sub-niche"
"Do something original or different than everyone else. Focus on a niche within the broad "make money online" niche."
John Chow points out "Are you Branded?"
"Enter only if your brand is strong enough."
SlyVisions points out "Branding Yourself"
"If I were you, you can still stick with that niche. Just make sure to brand yourself. My blog is also a "make money online" blog but I don't name it that. I brand myself with Slyvisions dot COm."
Chris Jacobson points out "Analyze Niches and Research Keywords"
"Many people feel overwhelmed when starting to research a niche because they don’t know how to do it properly or what a successful niche consists of.
Choose a keyword which is of interest to you. It could be a current trend or maybe a hobby you’re interested in and want to monetize. Use the free keyword suggestion tool to see how many other searches are being done each day on your particular term. Click on the keyword you want to use in your niche to get different variations of it."
Carlocab points out "Being Unique and focus on your marketing"
"My tip is do what others in your niche don't do. Be unique. Concentrate on marketing. Not tweaking your blog, designs or anything. Concentrate on marketing."
Monika points out "Lack of knowledge plays a part"
"For an absolute newbie to blogging I recommend to leave the fingers off the "make money online" niche. The problem isn't the saturation, but the lack of knowledge by the newcomer to write in an engaging style. To pick a niche and be successful in my eyes we need a certain amount of knowledge, passion and love for the subject.
If we don't have this, it will be very hard to stay motivated to pursue the niche. In that case I rather recommend to pick a niche related to a hobby, interest or sport away from the "make money online" niches."
Kevin points out "Start a blog with something you are passionate about"
"Well going into a saturated market isnt always the best thing to do but i wouldn't discourage anyone from starting a blog just because the market was busy, if the posts are good, you will get readers to stick to what you know, eg. start a blog about something you are passionate about and something which you are interested in. its better to write about what you know."
Caroline MiddleBrook points out "Trust your Instinct and blog normally"
"That is a very broad question and I don't really know how you expect me to answer it! I am in that niche also and I haven't done anything different because it is a saturated niche - just blog as you would as normal. The advantage of this niche is that there are lots of existing big blogs that can send you traffic if they link to you."
Pat Doyle points out "Original Ideas on Subjects will do"
"I don't think there is anything wrong with competing in a "saturated" niche like "make money online". As long as the blogger has some original ideas on the subject, he will find interested readers.
I think a NEW blogger should start with something he knows, though. If someone does not know anything about making money online, then maybe that is not the best choice. It is hard to write about something you do not know."
Andy Beard points out "Proof to others on you making money online first before stepping into the niche"
"Do you have proof that you know how to make money online? Do you have an angle that you can exploit to gain attention (JohnCow comes to mind)
Do you really want to spend the next 2 years blogging about making money online, or would you prefer to actually make some."
Daniel Scocco points out "Find out other profitable niche"
"I don't think its a good idea unless you are already making over $3000 monthly on the Internet. It is not easy to monetize that niche, and not easy to become popular either. There are other topics much more profitable, like entertainment or humor."
CourtneyTuttle points out "Give up this niche and find another niche to make money"
"To tell you the truth, 'make money online' isn't the best niche for a new blogger. It would be much better to choose another niche. If I was a new blogger, I would keep my 'make money online' site as a journal and would find another niche to make my money with!"
CharlesLau points out "Does it really matter whether it is a niche?"
"Basically, whether you are starting a niche or not, it doesn't really matter anyway. Why is this so?
Niche business basically means:
- More time and money is spent to work out your product and service based on your niche.
- More time and money is spent on marketing to get market acceptance.
- Bearing the risk that nobody accepts your idea after 6 months of hardwork.
- Preparing to bear the losses incurred for the next 6 months.
- Too many competition fighting over similar products and services.
- Amateurs tend to lower down their prices to entice buyers, making the suppliers losing business.
- Bearing low income over the next 6 months of hard work.
- Employees might actually make more money than you while you are working as hard as them.
new for people to rush in to buy. People have to buy from you because you are the first and only. When people starts to accept your idea, you will get some market share and invites competition eventually.
Saturated business basically helps to kick off the self-employed to make some money because of the huge market acceptance about your product. So when you go into saturated business, you will want to look at the possibility of having a certain niche in your business which makes you stand out from others. It could be your brand name? It could be your
quality control? It could be your extra features? And the worst part could be because you have a lower price?
Niche business basically means new market being open up. And that means it probably only takes a seasoned businessman to bring this business up and running smoothly and dominate the market instantly.
Saturated business basically means we have to be more creative in and bringing our product near to the customers, making them feel that they have bought something in this world that can improve their lives in one way or another."
Conclusion
I personally feel that this niche is pretty much stalled and new bloggers should seek for something fresh to talk about unless you have a strong past of making huge dollars and proof of the amount that you make online and willing to share your journey on how you make your money through the internet.
I had enough of those landing pages which shows me a picture of a couple enjoying themselves in Hawaii and carrying a laptop around and claim they make $100,000 monthly. If you are serious about this niche then you can consider exploring something unique and fresh to the eyes of the viewers and change the way they look at "make money online" blog.
